"A very nice camera for the money" 2009-10-03
By J. Seelye (Michigan)
This camera will do everything without carrying a big bag of extra parts. The video is 720p resolution and when played back on a good TV it is as good as it gets. The video focus works great and being able to zoom while shooting makes all the difference. The stills are prefect--great lighting, color and focus. I would like a higher resolution view finder--the one on this camera is a bit fuzzy to my eye. I guess I could learn to use the lcd display, but I still like the view finder for composing my pictures. I really like my new camera.

 "Canon SX20IS first impressions" 2009-10-03
By Thomas D. Arganbright (United States)
This is my first quality digital camera and it far exceeds my expectations. I am a novice user but I have been getting exceptional photos using the SX20IS camera. I have been taking pictures mainly of an outdoor nature, flowers, gardens and the like. The pictures have not been saturated with too much green or overloaded with hues. The zoom comes in very handy in outside shots.

I have just printed out the best pictures I have ever taken with true accurate colors and exceptional detail.

I have not tried the video function yet. That is still to come.

I have taken countless pictures with my EOS Rebel 35MM camera but the PowerShot is by far the lightest, fastest easiest one to use. This is a sturdy, well made camera which is laid out very well. The right buttons are where they should be.

An excellent choice for a beginner, novice, or a seasoned pro.

"nice features poor image quality" 2009-10-01
By Douglas G. Haring
Highlight areas all over exposed. Sub par color saturation/balance and contrast lead to flat looking images in what should be great lighting situations. Disappointed -bought and returned.

"Decent but not good enough" 2009-09-29
By Grad Rosenbaum
I tried this camera and the Powershot SX1 IS. The SX20 picture quality is noticably inferior- as is the video quality. I called Canon and they explained that the CMOS sensor in the SX1 IS is the primary driver as to why the picture quality is better and it's the reason why the camera is more expensive. I'm sticking with the SX1 IS despite the higher cost- it's worth it

"Love, Love, Love This Camera!" 2009-09-29
By H. Borja (USA)
I just traded in my Kodak V550 to get serious about learning how to take great photos, and I am so glad I did. I did a lot of research to try and find a camera that I could learn from and still took great photos, and the SX20 IS was the winner, even though I really wanted a DSLR. I made a great choice! I'm still getting the hang of the camera, but have turned out so many great photos that I could NEVER get with my Kodak. The HD video is a great feature to have with my growing toddler and my desire to capture her precious moments. The weight is fine for me and doesn't affect my rating for it's portability. I'll be travelling soon, and I am so glad that I chose this over the DSLR because of well portability! Can't wait to learn how to use this camera at its FULL potential!
