Image_large The email asked if we could carve a cake (to serve 100 guests) to look like a car.  I responded that yes we probably could, if she would send us a photo of the car she wanted to order.  Here is the photo she sent -- a 1969 blue Dodge Charger.

I assumed it was for a groom's cake as the the photo was followed by another email a few days later..."The cake is going to look like a car, right? I want it to be sculpted as a Charger! I just want to make sure we are on the same page."  While almost any customer CAN have a last-minute meltdown, this one had "bride" written all over it.

69charger1 I assured her that the cake would be carved into a 3-dimensional shape and look as much like a car as is possible with cake and buttercream.  She confirmed via email that she had been a little stressed with the wedding only days away.

69charger2 So here is the cake.  Ready for it's five-hour maiden voyage down to the beach in the back of a pickup truck for the big wedding debut.  About the only thing we left off was the white stripe around the back side of the car.  We had to leave the bottom of the car flat (skipping the upward angle) for gravity reasons on the road.

On Friday morning the bride sends a guy to pick up the cake (I'm pretty sure it's not the groom).  He looks at the cake and says:

"I thought it was supposed to be black."

A phone call and several thousand fluttering heartbeats later we were assured that the car was supposed to be blue, just like the photo.

Whew!
