Out-of-this-world adventures in new Stargate Atlantis DVD sets

AS FANS of Stargate wait for its next incarnation, Stargate Universe, to arrive on the small screen on October 2, two new DVD sets of previous series have just been released.

You can follow the adventures of the Stargate Atlantis team in the box set of the fifth and final season or catch up on the entire series in the complete Seasons 1-5 box set. Both hit stores in the UK today.

In Stargate Atlantis Season 5, the team goes full force on a mission to save victims of an off-world explosion, rescue a village under Wraith threat and help their friend Rodney McKay who is suffering from the the Pegasus galaxy's version of Alzheimer's disease.

Sparks fly when Woolsey (Robert Picardo) becomes the new leader of the Atlantis team. Meanwhile, Teyla (Rachel Luttrell) must balance her roles as mother and warrior; Ronan's (Jason Momoa) past returns with a vengeance, and Keller (Jewel Staite) is exposed to body-switching technology, ending up in a desperate struggle for survival inside the body of a wanted fugitive woman.

Produced by Brad Wright, Robert C. Cooper, Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie, Stargate Atlantis Season Five also includes exclusive featurettes, behind-the-scenes commentaries, deleted scenes and photo galleries.

The Stargate Atlantis Season 5 DVD box set is priced at £59.99 and the Stargate Seasons 1-5 Complete DVD box set at £169.99.

Also out is the Stargate SG-1 pilot Children of the Gods, a sequel to the original 1994 movie which launched the Stargate SG-1 series.

Children of the Gods was released on DVD for the first time on July 27. It was recut into 90-minute movie format and remastered with new special effects - see my earlier report and review here - and includes a commentary by producer Brad Wright and star Richard Dean Anderson as well as a Back to the Beginning featurette.
