Doug Barron First Player Kicked Off PGA Tour for Violating Drug Policy

Doug Barron, a middling professional golfer who hasn't played in a PGA Tour event since 2006, has the ignoble distinction of setting at least one record. He's become the first player to be suspended from the PGA Tour for testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance.

The tour does not disclose what substances a player tests positive for, only the results of a positive test. Barron released a statement, saying: "I would like to apologize for any negative perception of the tour of its players resulting from my suspension. I want my fellow tour members and the fans to know that I did not intend to gain an unfair competitive advantage or enhance my performance while on tour."

If Barron was doping, it didn't seem to be helping much. He's only earled $33,446 in the past year, making just five out of 17 cuts. This year he played four times in the Nationwide Tour, and failed to make the cut at the St. Jude's Classic, his lone PGA tour appearance.
