Drew Weaver is gaining notice as one of the early contenders during the US Open. He shot a 69 in the first round, easily beating out Tiger Woods, who finished four over at 74.

Meanwhile, Drew Weaver, who qualified for the Open after capturing the British Amateur, finished the round at one-under 69 Friday to take the early lead at Bethpage Black.
Weaver, 22, recorded three birdies on the back nine to surge from two over.
Weaver, who played the Masters and the British Open, became one of the few players under par.
