Dubai is distinct from other members of the UAE in that revenues from oil account for only 6% of its gross domestic product. A majority of the emirate's revenues are from the Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZ) and increasingly from tourism.
Emirates Airlines announced new packages coinciding with the start of the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) in Dubai Thursday.
Travellers to Dubai for the DSF can now avail a package starting at Rs.19,461 on twin-sharing basis for a three nights, return economy class airfare besides breakfast, pick-up and return airport transfers by car.
Asha Subramanian, Emirates sales manager, said the airline has been associated with the DSF since its inception in 1996.

Kuwait's Finance Minister Mustafa Al-Shimali said Sunday ministers of finance and economy of the six Gulf Cooperation Council, or GCC, countries agreed to activate the Monetary Union agreement. Those comments appear to also be backed by officials from the United Arab Emirates.
