Edmonton Oilers - New Kids on the Block For the Edmonton Oilers, there have been two big stories this season--one positive and one of misfortune. On a brighter note, Dustin Penner's emerged as star play. Last season, many regarded Penner as having an 'unmovable' contract while this year, every one is talking about how his contract is such a great value. Perhaps no other Oiler than Dustin Penner himself is so acutely aware of how fickle fans can actually be. Yet on a more dour note, who among us can actually keep track of the list of Oilers who are currently suffering from various ... Read Full Story

MacT pulled no punches with Dustin Penner today, saying "He's not competitive enough or fit enough to help us, so why put him back in? He's never been fit enough to help us," Oilers head coach Craig MacTavish told the Sun. "We signed him to be a top-two line player and that's kind of where it ended. The difference was we thought the contract was a starting point, and he's viewed it as a finish line. "It's been one thing after another. I can't watch it for - certainly not another two and-a-half years." Wow. That was awesome! Penner did score over 20 goals ... Read Full Story

There’s something wrong with this year’s Edmonton Oilers. It’s been wrong from the start of this year. The problem has haunted the squad all season. It hasn’t abated, hasn’t been rectified. The problem is not the coach. It’s not the general manager. It’s not the lack of one more top scoring forward, or the lack of a third-line center who can take face-offs or of a shut-down defenceman. These are all red herrings. And the problem is not Dustin Penner, who report has it is going to be benched for the Montreal game. Penner is the biggest, reddest herring of them all. No, the ... Dustin Penner has easily been the Edmonton Oilers best hockey player this season. With now 13 goals and 25 points and a plus/minus +11 in 23 games, Penner has been the only shining spot in an otherwise poor season for the Oilers to date. Hemsky, Visnovksy, and Ladislav Smid have also been good for Edmonton, but none (with the exception of Penner) have had a point in the season go by without some harsh criticism. In fact, it wasn't just days...
