Johnny Depp up for the Riddler, Eddie Murphy eager to be Egghead

JOHNNY DEPP says he would consider playing the Riddler if offered the role in a future Batman movie.

The villain was played by Frank Gorshin in the 60s Batman TV series and by Jim Carrey in 1995's Batman Forever.

False reports in The National Enquirer last year suggested that Depp was already cast in the role.

Depp, pictured here in his role in upcoming crime drama Public Enemies, told MTV: "If the opportunity came, I'd definitely juggle it. I always liked the Riddler.

"I always liked Frank Gorshin. Frank Gorshin was brilliant. I always thought he was a great actor."

Meanwhile, Eddie Murphy, who was rumoured by The Sun last year to have landed the role of the Riddler, recently sold The Tonight Show: "I heard that rumour as well. I don't know anything about it. But I would love to be in one of those Batman movies."

Murphy praised Jim Carrey's portrayal but didn't seem interested in playing the character.

Instead, he said he'd like the role of Egghead, the 60s TV series villain played by the late Vincent Price (see picture right).

He said he loved the character's egg references and did an Egghead impression on the show: "Egg-cellent! Egg-squisite! ... They'll never crack this hard-boiled case!"
