Eddie Murphy's 'SNL' Comeback: 73 Seconds, 0 Jokes
NBC

Eddie Murphy was back on the Saturday Night Live stage for the first time in more than 30 years on Sunday night, for the show's 40th anniversary celebration, and his appearance was short and sweet awkward, at best.

After Chris Rock spent nearly four minutes introducing the comedian and showering him with praise — even saying he "wanted to be Eddie Murphy" — Murphy took the stage for a whole 73 seconds. There were zero jokes in those 73 seconds, to boot. The closest he came to being funny was equating his return to being back in high school.

Murphy said it was a "magical" feeling to be back on the stage and asked the crowd for a round of applause for "everybody" after about a minute. The end.

The Internet, of course, had a field day with the lack of magic from his appearance.
