I've been an Onkyo fan for years and this receiver replaces an Onkyo that I've been very happy with. I bought this receiver because of the HDMI inputs, the THX certification, to have one cable to the TV, and the good reviews. Let me start off by saying I won't touch on AUDIO at all, there is no question this is an awesome AUDIO device. With that said, if you plan to hook up a Wii (component in, HDMI out), forget it. The Wii video signals seem to lock up the receivers video processing. Sound... Read Full Story
I am definitely not smart enough to use all the capabilities yet but I am totally happy with the sound. I replaced a 30 year old Onkyo amplifier and reciever with this system. Onkyo is the best buy for the money.Get more detail about Onkyo TX-SR806 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver (Black). Read Full Story
I am feeding this receiver with three 1080p signals, a PS3, and XBOX 360 and an Apple TV. There have been no blue dots on the screen at all and the audio is as promised - amazing! I followed the directions and set it to the recommended settings of 'Through' which doesn't try and upconvert the signal and can anyone tell me of any device out there that can "UP"convert anything that well anyway? Who knows, maybe I got lucky but so far so good. Get more detail about Onkyo TX-SR806 7.1 Channel... Read Full Story
BEWARE...when blu-ray is passed thru the receiver via hdmi there are blue artifacts in the blacks. I confirmed with Onkyo that this is a known defect and they do not have a current fix. I returned my order to Amazon and will look for a different brand.Get more detail about Onkyo TX-SR706 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver (Black). Read Full Story

This device is, well, unusual. I have a lot of feelings about it, both positive and negative.
Pos. Has HD radio - something you can't get with Bose. HD sounds GREAT, mostly because the signal is not generally "processed" like the analog FM signal is. HD is noticeably cleaner with better dynamic range.
Con. The HD is pretty marginal. It seems reluctant to "lock up" with the HD signal. It has a a unreliable, unpredictable feel to the HD function. I have a not-very-expensive JVC HD radio in my... Read Full Story
First off, one problem with the new 806, Amazon is currently in the process of shipping me a replacement unit. The receiver had an issue. I contacted Onkyo support, (On a Sunday afternoon, so the reviews I read about lack of support may be inaccurate), and could not get the issue resolved after many resets and setups. I am convinced the receiver was dropped and damaged during shipment. Chalk one up for good old UPS. All of that being said, and this is coming from an Onkyo buyer for a few... Read Full Story
Purchased this to replace a failing Pioneer reciever. 3 people noticed a difference in how things sounded while watching movies on bluray. HDMI upconversion isn't bad. It's nice to have a single hdmi cable running up to my tv knowing I can plug anything I want into my receiver and not have to fiddle. The remote is laid out well but I use the Harmony 880 so I rarely use it. The ability to rename every input is nice and the on screen menus are a definite step up from the pioneer black and... I almost sent this receiver back without even opening it because of all the bad press its getting on the various AV forums, which I discovered only after I made the purchase. In particular, I was worried about reported overheating issues, comments about it dropping the video signal from Nintendo's Wii, and the "blue dot" problem that reportedly occurs when passing 1080p signals. The last I haven't been able to test as my TV is only 720p, so while I'm still a little bit worried about that, I... Read Full Story
