Oh, for Pete’s sake… maybe I’m one of those people who buries my head in the sand, but I truly believed that, despite the media hype, I didn’t really have to worry about swine flu. Now I have a letter from our school district superintendent that tells me there have been at least 5 cases in New Jersey, and if someone in our school district catches it, they will have to close the schools for a minimum of seven (7) days. Kids, please don’t kiss pigs!

As part of the Columbia University Writer’s Workshop being implemented by our daughters’ teachers at Mendham Township Elementary School, Maddie’s first grade class has been gearing up for a Publishing Party in December by beginning to write their autobiographies. Maddie did an amazing job of gathering interesting facts about our family life, listing and illustrating ideas for her book:

While I couldn’t convince my kids to go out for basketball last year, I’ve got a few days left before the November 15th sign-up deadline for the Mendham Patriots Recreational Basketball League to determine whether London and Maddie would like to shoot some hoops with the girls on Saturdays this winter. When London and Maddie were in pre-school at Westmont Montessori in Mendham, NJ , and the birthday tradition was to invite the entire class, it felt like we were out at Toys With Love in Chester, NJ buying presents every week, and attending one or two kiddie birthday parties every weekend, particularly in the late fall and winter seasons.
