This live album, recorded in 1978 at the Toronto venue, was originally a much sought-after bootleg that was first released as a promotional disc. It was later released properly in 1993 as part of the 2 ½ Years box set and has now been reissued. While the sound quality isn't great and doesn't seem to have been improved, that doesn't really matter. What's important is that Costello and The Attractions play an absolutely blistering 49-minute set...

Attended the Elvis Costello show with my daughter, at the Royal Theatre last night. Amazing show – the man is such a talent – he played the whole show solo, just him and a range of his favourite guitars. The warm up act, Shelley Harland wowed the audiance also – a great future for this [...]

Title: Man Out of TimeArtist: Elvis Costello and the AttractionsElvis Costello and the Attractions in 1982. It's hard to pick the best of Costello's couplets, but "'Cause the high heel he used to be has been ground down, and he listens for the footsteps that would follow him around" has to be up there. Fun fact: Napolean Dynamite was a name used by Costello on the 1986 album Blood and Chocolate, a fact filmmaker Jared Hess claims he was...

Listen to this track, the closing song on 1980's Get Happy!!, recorded quickly after a dreary American tour and with a pile of Northern Soul 45s as a means to create it. Yet, there were other forces that helped to make this particular track - scandal! Picture the scene in a Columbus Ohio hotel bar, with a well-in-the-bag Costello, along with Attractions bassist Bruce Thomas, as well as members of Stephen Stills' band, including one Bonnie Bramlett. As such, we have something of the old guard in Stills' party, argubly 60s hippy remnants at somewhat of a descending arc by 1979. To contrast, Elvis ... Read Full Story

Recently I’ve been trying to expand my musical collection with a lot of artists/bands that I’ve had on my radar for a while and just haven’t explored as in depth as I would like. The list of artists I compiled for this little endeavor has quite a range to it and includes a certain singer/songwriter/punk rock icon I’ve been hearing sporatic songs by for something like a decade or longer. I’ve heard a lot of songs by Elvis Costello over years and have loved just about all of them, yet have for whatever crazy reason, have avoided checking out his albums and delving deeper. ... Elvis Costello Hosts Spectacle On The Sundance Channel A few days ago – actually it was the night I returned home from my whirlwind trip to Reunionpalooza in California – I got an email from my friend Jamie inviting me to go see Elvis Costello with her at the Apollo Theater in Harlem. When I first read her email, because I was delirious and not really paying attention, I thought this would be a standard Elvis Costello concert performance. But it turned out that the show we went to last night was a taping for this program called Spectacle , which runs on the ... Read Full Story

Sort of weird coincidences going on between me and Momofuku. About a month ago, I went to New York to see some family and some friends. As a result of watching too many episodes of the PBS series The Best Recipes in the World ( David Chang, head chef of Momofuku, was featured several times on the show), I felt to compelled to get me some Momofuku. So on two separate occasions, I ate at the Momofuku Ssam Bar and at the Noodle Bar ( http://www.momofuku.com/ .) Anyways, so my brother who lives in D.C. calls me up and asks me about where I ...
