Ever had a bad day at work? 20 years ago Monday, I had an amazingly bad day at work.  I was a rookie corrections officer who got taken hostage in one of the worst prison riots in US history.  It all happened in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. I was on the job just 4 months, when "it hit the fan".  Several hundred inmates rioted, most of the jail was destroyed. And when it was all said and done. I died, had a "near death experience" and came back to life. I got diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. My entire life fell apart. Never again ... Read Full Story

It suggests the Obama administration bolster efforts to counter and prepare for germ warfare by terrorists. “Our margin of safety is shrinking, not growing,” states the report, obtained by The Associated Press. It is scheduled to be publicly released Wednesday. The commission is also encouraging the new White House to appoint one official on ... Read Full Story

Where I live, seven miles from the San Andreas Fault in California, we just passed the 20th anniversary of the Loma Prieta earthquake, which devastated some areas of towns near where I live. As if that weren't reminder enough of the importance of emergency preparedness, last Tuesday we got almost 11 inches of rain from the remnants of a Pacific typhoon! We lost power and phone service for most of the day. Good reminders of how important it is...
