Federal authorities in Los Angeles say they will pay a reward of up to $150,000 following the capture of one of the FBI's most-wanted fugitives, who disappeared for nine years following the shooting of a sheriff's deputy. The FBI said Monday at least one tipster would receive money after 37-year-old Emigdio Preciado Jr.'s arrest in rural Mexico last week. Preciado, a reputed gang member, had been sought since the attack in the Los Angeles suburb of Whittier in September 2000. Authorities say a fugitive from the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list suspected of spraying automatic weapons fire at two Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies nearly nine years ago is in custody in Mexico. FBI and sheriff's officials said in a news release Saturday that reputed gang member Emigdio Preciado Jr. was arrested Friday night in Mexico and FBI agents there verified his identity. FBI officials would not give further details on the arrest. LOS ANGELES, July 19 (UPI) -- Mexican police and the FBI say they have apprehended an alleged gang member wanted for shooting a Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy. Emigdio Preciado Jr., 39, also known as and stands accused of the Sept. 5, 2000, shooting of Deputy Michael Schaap, who was critically injured when Preciado allegedly fired 21 bullets through the door of a van in which he was riding. An FBI spokesman said Preciado was apprehended Friday night in Mexico by Mexican police and FBI agents, the Los Angeles Times reported.
