SteelEye Technology Inc., a provider of business continuity and disaster recovery solutions for multi-vendor IT infrastructures, reportedly has formed a sales partnership with EnterpriseDB, a provider of enterprise-class products and services based on PostgreSQL, an advanced open source database.  

Even with all the drama surrounding Oracle's pending acquisition of Sun and critics' concerns about its impact on Oracle's open source database competition, Sun developers are still hard at work on MySQL. One of the fruits of their labors is the recent MySQL 5.5 milestone 2 development release, which introduces many new features to the open source database -- some of which were originally intended for MySQL 6.0.

The bottom line: As both a community member of MySQL, and a service provider, I am not worried about Oracle buying Sun and acquiring MySQL in the process. There is no validity to the argument that Oracle will slow down or stop MySQL development — it is not possible, with various forks already [...]

European Union antitrust regulators reacted positively to a proposal Monday by Oracle Corp. to safeguard the MySQL database, putting Oracle's bid for Sun Microsystems Inc. on a path to be cleared by the bloc....
