via www2.pictures.gi.zimbio.com I was out of the "office" on Friday when the Kansas City Chiefs signed former Cincinnati Bengals center Eric Ghiaciuc .  Keeping with the theme of many of the offseason signings, I didn't know anything about the guy.  Just that he was a center with the Bengals and has been a starter for nearly three years.  27 years old with 42 games started at first glance makes Ghiaciuc look like a steal for the Chiefs, right? Wrong.  At least according to the Bengals fans.  Here's what a few miscellaneous Bengals boards had to say about him. Bengals Scout.com message board: I'll miss ... Read Full Story

At one point, circa 2005, Marvin Lewis was so popular and well-endorsed as an up-and-coming coaching genius, that he could have run for president. The team was playing well, Carson Palmer looked like the next elite quarterback of the league, and the fans and media plunged themselves head first into the Bengal frenzy. Seems that Mike Brown is set for the Bengals to be the next team on HBO’s Hard Knocks : Asked if he was going to try to pump up or preen before facing the cameras, Mike Brown shook his head and sounded as if he were mirroring Marlon Brando: “I’m bald. I’m fat. I’m old. I’m probably a little addled. If that’s how it comes across, that’s how it comes across.” Isn’t that Colonel Walter E. Kurtz, the rogue character Brando played in “Apocalypse Now”? While the look may be the same, the Cincinnati Bengals owner wants nothing to do with that title. The ... Read Full Story

Today’s Dayton Daily News reports that former practice squad player Kyle Cook will anchor the Bengals O-line in 2009: What the Bengals want and need, Kyle Cook has. The second-year center from Michigan State has taken advantage of his opportunity and seized the starting job, replacing Eric Ghiaciuc, who signed with the Kansas City Chiefs as an unrestricted free agent on April 30. “Kyle’s got the ‘it’ factor,” offensive line coach Paul Alexander said. “The guys follow his direction and that’s what we’re looking for. You have to take charge. That’s one of the requirements of the job. “You have to make the right ... Read Full Story

The Chiefs today signed veteran unrestricted free agent center Eric Ghiaciuc to a deal. The 6-foot-4, 303-pound Ghiaciuc made 42 starts for Cincinnati from 2005-08 after being drafted in the fourth round by the Bengals in 2005. The Bengals drafted center Jonathan Luigs of Arkansas in the fourth round Sunday. The other centers on the Chiefs’ roster are Wade Smith, a seven-year veteran, and Rudy Niswanger, a four-year vet who started 15 games last season for Kansas City. Read Full Story
