Erickson Beamon for Target

Target Design Collaborations for me are usually hit or miss. While I love and firmly believe in the idea of style for less, I find that the designs don’t always translate as well with cheaper materials or fabrics. I find that the fabrics are sometimes itchy and irritate my skin, or that the clothes sometimes just don’t fall right on the body.

Regardless of how the designs are executed, I’m always excited to see what new design collaborations Target comes up with, and I was thrilled to see them work with Erickson Beamon since they practically invented the chandelier earring, one of my favorite accessories of all time.  Erickson Beamon designs are always elegant, sophisticated, and statement making, with a hint of heirloom styling, such as with their Erickson Beamon Arcade Innocence Cuff or the Erickson Beamon Glenda Necklace.

Common to my experience with most Target collaborations, the designs for this partnership were both good and bad. The bad applied to any of their pieces that involved large colored stones, and some strange color pairings. While Erickson Beamon does use these elements in their normal priced pieces, when moved to a lower price point, the colored stones looked gaudy, or just like plain, uninspired candy, as with this Triangular Jeweled Choker necklace which has the unfortunate resemblance to shiny Chiclets stringed together on a chain.  These Chandelier Charm skull charm earrings in red and black are a juvenile voodoo, inspired design that don’t have charm or whimsy.

Designs that looked lovely and belied their affordable price point included this statement making  Jeweled Statement Flower bracelet, which I can imagine looking great paired with a classic button down and a pencil skirt, for just the right stylish accent for a work outfit.  This Jeweled Flower cocktail ring, also looked dainty and delicate and the carefully chosen faux-gems on it were just the right amount to prevent it from looking overwrought.  A number of pieces also featured large, oversize Alice in Wonderland “Drink Me” type designs with enlarged plastic clovers, antique hearts, and Anna Sui style rose charms on enlarged chain links.  While not my typical style, the pieces are fun and youthful, and I can envision them looking appropriate with a fun Marc by Marc Jacobs dress.
