Eagles Defense Still Answering Questions

By iggle36 on  From insidetheiggles.com
Coming into this year’s training camp, there were many questions to be answered on the defensive side of the ball. Would rookie defensive end Brandon Graham start across from Trent Cole on opening day? Would Ernie Sims be the starting weak side linebacker? Would Moise Fokou hold onto the top spot on the strong side? Could Nate Allen play at a high level as a starting Free Safety in his rookie season? Would Ellis Hobbs step up his play as a starting corner across from Asante Samuel? So far, it...Read Full Story

Eagles Linebackers are Neighbors On and Off the Field

By iggle36 on  From insidetheiggles.com
Eagles weakside linebacker Ernie Sims during practice. At least two of the Eagles starting linebackers should have great chemistry on and off the field – they live next to each other, after all.  When Ernie Sims was acquired from Detroit by the Eagles in a three-way trade in April, fellow linebacker Stewart Bradley was one of the first Eagles to welcome him.  “He stepped up to me on the first day I walked in,” Sims said. The two became friends quickly, and Sims happened to find an...Read Full Story

Eagles Linebacker Sims Pumped for Season Opener

By iggle36 on  From insidetheiggles.com
Eagles weakside linebacker Ernie Sims during practice. Leading up to gametime, Ernie Sims is all about the gospel music.  The linebacker who loves a good hard hit as much as anybody tries to listen to something soothing before the game to reign in his aggressiveness, because he knows he’ll be full steam ahead once the game starts. Before kickoff, Sims aims to keep himself calm.  “Just be myself. If I can, I listen to music.  If I don’t have music, I just relax,” he said.   The former Lion...Read Full Story

Eagles Hope Linebackers Lead the Way on Defense

By iggle36 on  From insidetheiggles.com
The combo of Ernie Sims and Stewart Bradley received a lot of attention at camp. Make no mistake, the Eagles linebackers this year are far better than last season.  The trio is probably as good as Philadelphia has had since Jeremiah Trotter was in his prime.  Perhaps most importantly, all three – Stewart Bradley, Ernie Sims and Akeem Jordan – can play every snap. “Big.  It really is big.  And this gets back to us being healthy, for the most part, right now,” said defensive coordinator...Read Full Story

Philadelphia Eagles Offseason: Time to Throw Out Ernie Sims?

By Cartman on  From eaglesgab.com
The Philadelphia Eagles were able to steal away an excellent linebacker, Ernie Sims, from the Lions, for a mere fifth-round pick. A great veteran player on the young Eagles defense, something that the Eagles were looking to either acquire via trade or draft, and they found a great pickup. The trade went down between the Lions, Broncos, and of course the Eagles, making a nice three way trade that benefited everyone. The Broncos receiving a handful of picks and the Lions getting Tony Scheffler...Read Full Story

Thoughts on Sims

By JohnnyFiveOh on  From eagleshavelanded.com
Having attended Florida State while Ernie Sims was terrorizing the ACC, I know a good bit about the linebacker who figures to come in and be a starter at WILL out of the gate. Starting as a freshman there were players and coaches who  praised Sims ability to lay down the lumber, even during practice. He went gung ho in every session, and carried that intensity into Saturday. The GM who drafted Sims ninth overall in the ‘06 draft, Matt Millen, had this to say about the undersized ‘backer and...Read Full Story

Eagles’ Ernie Sims Looking Forward to First Monday Night Appearance

By iggle36 on  From insidetheiggles.com
Eagles linebacker Ernie Sims has been looking forward to playing on Monday Night Football since he left Detroit for greener pastures. Ernie Sims knew that coming to Philadelphia would afford him new opportunities.  After all, Detroit didn’t win many games during Sims’ four seasons there.  As a result, the fifth-year veteran will make his first appearance on Monday Night Football this week when the Eagles visit the Redskins. “It’s going to be really special for me,” Sims said.  “I’m just...Read Full Story

Former Eagle Says He'd Like to Coach Linebackers

By SportsPageNetwork on  From 2minutestomidnightgreen.com
While commenting on the Andy Reid's overhaul of the defensive coaching staff , former Eagles linebacker Seth Joyner said he'd be interested in coaching up the young linebacking corps currently in Philadelphia. "If granted the opportunity, I would love to come back to Philly to coach and pass on my linebacking knowledge to this good group of young Eagles LB's," Joyner writes after saying he agrees with Reid's decision to move on from Sean McDermott as the defensive coordinator. If Joyner...Read Full Story

Ernie Sims

latest news about Ernie Sims: Ernie Sims is a Philadelphia Eagle and the Denver Broncos have an extra draft pick after a three-team trade went down in the NFL on Monday morning. Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting (via PFT) that the first three-team trade of this offseason involved the Lions sending Sims to the Eagles, who then gave an undisclosed draft pick to the Broncos, who then shipped Scheffler to the Lions. UPDATE: The Broncos will get a fifth-round pick from the Eagles. Denver will...Read Full Story

Eagles React to Fine on Sims

By iggle36 on  From insidetheiggles.com
Eagles linebacker Ernie Sims plans to continue his hard-hitting ways. The Eagles defense won’t change its approach in the wake of a $50,000 fine on Ernie Sims for what the NFL deemed an unnecessary hit on a defenseless receiver, at least according to Sims and defensive coordinator Sean McDermott. The linebacker, a repeat offender, says he’ll never change the way he plays. “No,” Sims said.  “People know me by now, I’ve been playing this for a long time.  I just throw myself around, really...Read Full Story
