Evangelical, Orthodox and Roman Catholic Christians have Abandoned Prophetic Call to Justice

In my opinion, a majority of Evangelical, Orthodox and Roman Catholic Christians have Abandoned the Bible’s Prophetic Call to Justice.

What do I base this upon? Well, I read yesterday how a group of university researchers identified poverty among gay and lesbian families, and especially poverty among children of gay and lesbain families.



This research was scientifically-conducted and clearly goes against a popular idea that says ‘all gays are rich’ and that gays are some sort of wealthy, privileged elite.

Julie Bocher for the Advocate Magazine writes that,

“Findings released today by the Williams Institute at the UCLA School of Law show that gay, lesbian, and bisexual Americans are as likely or even more likely than heterosexuals to live in poverty. The authors of the report describe it as the first study of its kind.”

This study was conducted scientifically and needs to be heeded for moral reasons, because anti-same-sex laws clearly harm both gays and their families, by imposing financial costs upon them that are not imposed upon straights and their families.

You would think that the spokesperson for a leading anti-same-sex equality group, primarily funded by conservative religious groups, would at least admit that poor is, well, poor.



But no, according to the extremist Christian hate group called the Heritage Foundation, the study about gays and poverty is ‘garbage’, for reasons that defy logic:

“A poverty scholar from the conservative Heritage Foundation dismissed the study as “garbage," according to USA Today, because it looks only at couples and therefore does not compare single gays to single mothers, a larger poverty group.”

If the agenda of the extremist conservative Christians was moral and prophetic, they would mitigate their hate spewing long enough to at least admit that poverty of families and children, no matter whose familiy or children, is troubling and must be confronted.

But the agenda of these organized churches has NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with mercy or kindness or any other attributes of the True and Living God.



They are obsessed with harming gays, and they would persecute and torture and execute gays, if possible.



They have an agenda to establish sexual laws enforced by a religious fundamentalist theocracy in America, and gays directly challenge this agenda.

So their true motivation, to hate and to harm is revealed at this moment when a balanced group would at least admit that poverty, wherever it occrus and harms, especially when it harms chilren, is bad.

But not when it comes to gays. Oh no, gays are evil and deserve whatever Evangelical and Roman Catholic and Orthodox extremists can to do them.




In other words, these religious fascists see themselves as ‘instruments of God’s judgement’ and consequently they are ‘serving Christ’ when they hate and harm children in poverty, that is, the evil children of evil hated gays in poverty.

This is a moral abdication of the function these churches should be serving, if you ask me.

They should be calling their congregations to a higher consciousness and to higher actions of peace and mercy and justice.

And the ‘trickle down’ effect of having a Pope or major ministers or priests urging their flocks to financially support hate organs like the Heritage Foundation, is that right wing Republicans and other neo-Nazi groups are openly calling gays, ‘equal to murderers’ with the implication that gays need to be executed.

And the neoNazi skinheads, KKK and Republicans-Evangelicals quote their Born Again-hate-based talking points when they demand the death of gays:

“A prominent national gay rights organization on Tuesday blasted Colorado state Sen. Scott Renfroe for comparing homosexuality to murder when he spoke Monday against a bill that would extend health benefits to same-sex domestic partners of state employees.



“After quoting Scripture to call homosexual behavior a “detestable act,” the Greeley Republican said it would be “an abomination according to Scripture” for the Legislature to “(take) sins and (make) them to be legally OK.”

“He continued: “I’m not saying (homosexuality) is the only sin that is out there. Obviously we have sin — we have murder, we have, we have all sorts of sin, we have adultery, and we don’t make laws making those legal, and we would never think to make murder legal.”

So, in other words, hating gay people raises an enormous amount of cash for these churches and their related hate groups, so if hating gays raises money, who the Hell cares about the words of Jesus or the words of the Biblical prophets, right?



And these religious groups think the the rest of us are going to run into their hateful arms and shout grateful praises to Jesus, right?

Indeed, as I see it, the greatest impediment to discovering any redeemable truth or value in the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth and the Biblical prophets are the modern day extremist so-called followers of these teachers, who have hijacked the true Gospel and invented a religion that in no way reflects the Spirit of the Prince of Peace and the Source of all Love.

Shame on you all!

Will any of my Kool-aid drinking born again friends wake up before they harm more innocent families, or will they, like the hard-working ‘Christian’ population of Germans under Hitler march to the drum beat of continuing hatred?

Lord, have mercy on us all!

To be fair, some religious groups, who do not promote hatred as part of their so-called 'Good News' have denounced this hate-mongering against gays:

A spokesman for the Interfaith Alliance of Colorado on Wednesday condemned remarks made Monday by state Sen. Scott Renfroe when he called homosexuality an “abomination” and an “offense to God” in a debate over a bill to extend health benefits to same-sex partners of state employees.



“As a Christian, I am profoundly saddened by the hate speech uttered by Sen. Renfroe in the name of God,” the Rev. Richard Craft, interim pastor at Family of Christ Presbyterian Church of Greeley, said in a statement.

The Greeley Republican’s “inflammatory remarks reinforce the kind of hostile climate that can put real people in harm’s way,” Alliance officials wrote, noting that Angie Zapata was violently beaten to death with a fire extinguisher in Renfroe’s hometown last year because she was transgender.



“Such speech is not simply an expression of neutral opinion; it emboldens attitudes of exclusion and even violence against our neighbors, whom we are called upon to love,” Craft said. “And, it feeds the growing idea that Christianity is a religion of hate.”

I have former Evangelical, RC and Orthodox friends and family who openly accuse me of being 'immoral'.

Their basis for this accusation is based upon a few verses they 'cherry-picked' from the Bible to support their bigotry toward me.
I am not immoral. I love my family and my country, I work hard, I pay bills and other taxes, and I hurt and suffer just like any other human being.

This is what so-called 'Christians' have forgotten: that first and foremost gays are human beings.

And if you ask me, these religious extremists are in no position to judge anyone.

Nope. Your religion is screwed up, or, at least the WAY YOU INTERPRET your religion is screwed up.

And it drives you to hate and harm people. Why don't we all take a moment and go back and read what the Prophets were really saying?
