Forgive me, but I'm skipping the opening acts from this show. Kristen had a birthday this past week, and we also had a death in my family, so we've had mixed emotions the last few days. It was nice to get out on Friday evening after dealing with our personal tragedy to enjoy a show. Dashboard Confessional kicked off an anticipated solo tour last Friday at Ram's Head Live! in support of a new album, The Shade of Poison Trees , out tomorrow on Vagrant Records . After a first listen, the record definitely puts aside the full-on band style of Dusk and Summer ... Read Full Story

New this week from Dashboard Confessional , The Shade of Poison Trees comes touted as a return to acoustic solo roots. Do not, however, expect an expounding on the old standards. Shade is not as instant, as visceral, as The Places You Have Come To Fear The Most or even A Mark, A Mission, A Brand, A Scar . Where Dashboard's picture-perfect poster boy unleashed emo onto the mainstream on early records, this album does not have any of the howls and haunts one might expect. Instead, Chris Carrabba has found a new voice: one that is more self-assured and seasoned, but reined in, ... Read Full Story

Let me say this from the outset: I think that "emo pants" are ridiculous. (You know what emo pants are, right? Those skinny pants that look OK on girls, but have started to be worn by some teenage boys, especially those who are fans of the punk-based musical style known as emo. If this still isn't ringing a bell, you can see plenty of examples here.)I can't imagine for the life of me why someone of the male gender would want to squeeze his...

The poster boy for the so-called “emo haircut,” Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz has ended his long-term affair with the flatiron, at least for the time being. At Sunday night’s Fall Out Boy/Blink-182 show at Madison Square Garden in New York, Wentz declared it was “the death of the emo haircut,” and had Blink’s Mark Hoppus shave his head onstage while FOB played “Saturday.” So that’s it, Wentz-haters: Nothing left to mock! Let’s all move on...
