I was researching on the web this morning to find something wonderful to share with you all today and when I found this I was blown away. The pope has essentially announced that creationism vs. evolution is an absurd argument . Normally, I try to stay away from religion and politics on this blog, but today I’m making an exception. Kirk Cameron is raising eyebrows over his part in helping to create a special edition of The Origin of Species, by Charles Darwin, that includes “a 50-page introduction that picks apart aspects of (Charles) Darwin’s work and (tries) to link it to everything from Nazi eugenics to the scientist’s alleged ‘disdain for women.” Kirk Cameron’s video explanation of the evolution vs. creationism debate is above, but Cameron tells People.com: “Atheism has been on the rise for years now, and the Bible of the atheists is The Origin of Species. Wrote this shit in my spare time. Might be an interesting read. The controversial issue between the origins of life has aroused from the beginning of our time. One of the most basic questions that has been puzzling our minds since the day we have come to realize the nature of these questions is, ‘how did we come about?’ Or, ‘what is our purpose in life?’ These questions are the base of our life. They are the meanings of our lives. When asked these questions, the ideal answer to this question is evolution. Philosophers such as, Charles Darwin, an English naturalist, has proved the ... President Barak Obama has wisely suggested that it is time to take the heat out of the debate over abortion, and that people on both sides of the aisle (pro-life vs. pro-choice) need to stop demonizing each other and try to find some common ground that they can agree upon. Obamas counsel might also [...] Read Full Story

AUTHOR: G.R. MortonSOURCE: Answers in ScienceCOMMENTARY: Allen MacNeillFirst, today is the 150th anniversary of the original publication of Charles Darwin's Origin of Species. So many people have written about this event that it would be superfluous for me to write about it here. However, some of what has been written about the Origin lately, mostly by creationists and supporters of "intelligent design", is that Darwin's theory of evolution by...

British creationists are numerous, largely irreligious, and ignorant of scienceThe previous blog discussed how creationist opinion formers think: given that formal creationism is a belief that must be taught, this seems a sensible line of enquiry. By formal creationism, I mean the belief that most scientists have more or less malevolently misinterpreted the data for the last 200 years to prove that the Bible is not literally true. That survey...

The polling firm Gallup reported this year that 39 percent of Americans accept the truth of evolution, that 36 percent have no opinion on it, and that 25 said they don’t believe it. With such apathy toward the natural world, it’s no wonder children from other nations have surpassed American students in science and technology.
