Kids who expect a multitude of information to magically appear from their computers don't always understand the power of a free press. Watching All the President's Men as a family opened up a conversation about how reporters follow a story and tell the truth, which makes this movie newsworthy in our household. It was front page news all over the world when Richard Nixon became the first American president to resign and the film, which won four Oscars in 1976, is a thrilling look at how the... Karyn Bryant : Last night my husband and I were invited to our friend's house to hang out. Our daughter loves her two kids, so spending time together is always fun. Our little ones ran around, giggled and fought gently over toys as we chatted and snacked in the back yard. As the sun set, another pal from the neighborhood came by -- a nice little girl welcomed by all of us. But, the thing is, she came alone. And she's three.
In some places (Mayberry, perhaps?) a 3-year-old walking out... Read Full Story
This morning, I didn’t have the honor of being woken by my daughter since when she called for me, I hadn’t been to bed yet. I was still awake, working into the small hours of the evening and she needed help getting to the washroom. The call of natured answered, I deposited her back into her bed, but noticed a movement on her pillow.
Bedbugs.
I found out that the bed, previously without a single sign of them, was quite literally crawling with them. After getting the futon set up for her... Read Full Story
I participate in a variety of message boards, forums, etc. I was made aware of this last night. There is nothing else I can say except if you are a praying person keep Hannah in your thoughts. My ten year old daughter was just diagnosed yesterday (confirmed today) with breast cancer. I have been searching for similar cases but have found nothing. My wife and I have no idea what type, stage, etc... We took her in to have a lump removed that was thought to be completely routine, but the surgeon... Read Full Story

In these days of rampaging materialism and children demanding mobile phones by the time they've made their first friendship group at the age of 6, it's heartening to see that some parents still 'get' what it means to give a meaningful birthday gift. My daughter received this handmade plaque on her 4 th birthday from her good friends Heather and Lola and it has pride of place in her bedroom. On the day of her birthday, Mia flat refused a birthday cake and candles and forbade any of us from... Read Full Story
Momma’s bragging today. I don’t know how Nu-je-vu ties into this at all at this point, but I also don’t care.
I’m just being a really proud momma today.
It didn’t happen on her birthday, Nov. 26th or on Thanksgiving, but close enough. My oldest daughter, just turned 20 the day before Turkey day. She is working part time, writing part time and grinding out her 2nd year of college.
For years, since she was about 8, I knew she would write. I knew she would be good and so did her... Read Full Story
Three days after Christmas and I still haven't fully recovered. The tree and all the decorations are already put away. I had to we needed the space for all the toys. This is no exaggeration our house could give toys "r" us a run for their money. We are swimming in toys. I need a new set of shelves to have a place to put all the toys. Santa visited our house and both grandparents house. Apparently nobody got the message that they didn't need toys, but really needed clothes. I guess next year... Read Full Story
