On this day in 1859, Blondin, a French Acrobat walked across the mighty Niagara Falls on a tightrope.
The “Little Wonder” wowed crowds as he maneuvered a 1,100 foot tightrope 160 feet above the water.
This was the first of many other walks across the Niagara; Blondin successfully crossed the cascade wearing a blindfold and another time on stilts, making Niagara Falls the world’s first tourist attraction.

Mike Tyson, a renowned boxer turns 42. Tyson retired from boxing in June 2005 after he said he no longer had the fighting guts or the heart anymore. He’s been at the root of many a controversy in his lifetime, including serving jail time. Tyson had a large tribal tattoo carved into his face in Las Vegas in 2003.
Fantasia Barrino turns 24
Fantasia Barrino won the fourth season of American Idol in 2004. Fantasia has several awards and wins under her belt since awing audiences worldwide. Fantasia has been cast as Celie in the upcoming musical adaptation of the film The Color Purple due out in 2009.
