One of my Art Professors once cautioned that when viewing a work of art - whether it be a painting or a short film - the observer should take a step back and first fathom the emotions that washed over the senses. A clever artist, after all, is capable of manipulating the elements to seduce the individual. That's the case with Neill Blomkamp's Sci-Fi thriller - District 9 - released by Tri-Star pictures. Understandably. Blomkamp started out in the biz as a director of videos and TV commercials. A master of slick vacuous images, Blomkamp's film work has no soul or spirit to speak ... Read Full Story

MPAA Rating: PG-13 Distributor: Universal Pictures - - - Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant is, I’m certain, the first of several films that will help take vampires from their current status as emo-hunks with sensitive sides, and send them down a shame spiral where they’ll hit rock bottom, and be forced to stay in hiding until someone reinvents them again. WOULD you like to hitchhike to Betelgeuse, stargaze from Vulcan (before it was destroyed in the new Star Trek film, as in the image on the right!) or explore the galaxies far, far away where the Star Wars saga began? Among the highlights of last week's Sci-Fi-London film festival was a virtual tour of the night sky from a sci-fi perspective, showing some of the most famous locations from the genre's most famous movies, books and TV shows, including Star Trek, Doctor Who, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Battlestar Galactica. Sci-Fi-London teamed up with The Royal Observatory in Greenwich, London, for Sci-Fi ... Read Full Story

In truth, there simply aren't a lot of science-fiction movies for children. In a world filled with tales like The Neverending Story, Labyrinth, Harry Potter and much, much more, it would seem that children and fantasy are paired far more often than children and science-fiction. Perhaps it's because fantasy offers a broader visual scope, or greater possibilities for the things we read about in fairy tales, but those would seem like arguments...
