I participate in a lot of online forums and groups, as many of you know. An issue that has come up a number of times in discussion is in respect of my screen name and my profile picture. Some people have suggested that " Alcomum " and a shadowy wine drinker are not appropriate for a person supposed to be in recovery. It has even been "politely suggested" that I change them to "something more positive", and even that they are "offensive". I will not be changing them. And here is why... I am amazed and delighted to have been given the blogging Sisterhood Award not once, but twice. The first came from the lovely Mayra Calvani , who has come up with the intriguing blog idea of getting Amigo (her golden retriever) to interview lots of authors' pets. The Interview by LisB. If you only have time for one on this list, this is it. It's an essay with a tender, compelling hum, perhaps more so because it resonates so with me. It's about a Generation X woman who is returning to the workforce after being away. I really love her description of Manhattan, and putting on and pulling off the suit . For all you Gen Jones leaning Xers I give you A Room of One's Own . I link to Kat frequently, and both her blogs have been on my blog roll from almost day one. I just really like ... Read Full Story

Through the power of social media, I have been privileged to connect with many different types of people. Some have been great friends and some have been slightly annoying, but throughout my travels, it's been tons of fun. I am constantly amazed by the power of my online friendships to further a mission. Blogging. One of the most rewarding yet agonizing pursuits in modern history. Or like a box of chocolates. You never quite know what you're gonna get. People write online for all sorts of reasons. For a job, to vent, to earn an income, make connections, engage in productive activity, or develop ... Read Full Story
