I am amazed and delighted to have been given the blogging Sisterhood Award not once, but twice. The first came from the lovely Mayra Calvani , who has come up with the intriguing blog idea of getting Amigo (her golden retriever) to interview lots of authors' pets. Unfortunately, my dandie dinmont, Willow , was only too glad to oblige, and has now spilled the beans on me in a very indiscreet way. I really love reading what Amigo's interviewees come up with--who knew that writers' lives were... Read Full Story
I participate in a lot of online forums and groups, as many of you know. An issue that has come up a number of times in discussion is in respect of my screen name and my profile picture. Some people have suggested that " Alcomum " and a shadowy wine drinker are not appropriate for a person supposed to be in recovery. It has even been "politely suggested" that I change them to "something more positive", and even that they are "offensive". I will not be changing them. And here is why... I am a... Read Full Story
This is a milestone post. It is #500 since I started blogging back in May 2008. I cannot believe it but it has been my hobby, my voice, my entertainment, and, yes, my obsession. My posts have had some themes but it truly has been more of a random collection of my thoughts. Tasithoughts is a combination of two things. The word “Tasi” simply means “beach” or “ocean” in my native language of Chamorro from Guam. The name reflects my boyhood past time of sitting by the beach and day dreaming and... Read Full Story
Through the power of social media, I have been privileged to connect with many different types of people. Some have been great friends and some have been slightly annoying, but throughout my travels, it's been tons of fun. I am constantly amazed by the power of my online friendships to further a mission. Blogging. One of the most rewarding yet agonizing pursuits in modern history. Or like a box of chocolates. You never quite know what you're gonna get. People write online for all sorts of... Newsweek is reporting that there has been a fall-out in respect to blog book deals. In support of their argument they note that a gawker.com deal with Atria for the sum of $250,000.00 turned out lackluster sales - 1,000 copies to date. Christian Lander (Stuff White People Like) was signed by Random House with an up-front pay-out of $350,000.00 based on the fact he reved up a staggering 20 million hits at his site each month. In spite of the fact the book is slated for a release July 1, I... Read Full Story
I was going to update my blog on some other topic and I may still do that later but I had to share with you part of the reasoning I often miss writing in my own blog... The reason is, I am too busy over at the The Black Snob salivating over her words and rejoicing in the fact that she's like me, only older, smarter, and wiser . I love to write, sort of... But I don't like to try at it. I almost want to reject being good at it. When I read her posts, I am reminded of when I would be assigned... Read Full Story
The Interview by LisB. If you only have time for one on this list, this is it. It's an essay with a tender, compelling hum, perhaps more so because it resonates so with me. It's about a Generation X woman who is returning to the workforce after being away. I really love her description of Manhattan, and putting on and pulling off the suit . For all you Gen Jones leaning Xers I give you A Room of One's Own . I link to Kat frequently, and both her blogs have been on my blog roll from almost... Read Full Story
Hello, I note that the BBC are harassing knitters now . God it's such a bothering channel! Say wht you like about ITV but it isn't always trying to get us to behave. Why won't the BBC leave us alone? If it's not Blue Peter annoying us about bloody 'Bring and Buy', they're bothering us with Children in Need. Why can't Blue Peter just call bring and buy sales jumble sales like normal folk anyway? It's the classic hallmark of a botherer that -trying to turn lives little pleasures into something... Read Full Story
I thought I'd use today's post to talk about another blog that I'm an avid reader of. is written by Graham Linehan . Graham as co-creator and co-writer of Father Ted , co-writer of Black Books and creator, writer and director of The IT Crowd works on some of my favourite sit- coms and his natural humour easily extends to his blog. Unlike many "celebrity" blogs, Graham not only welcomes comments on his posts but often takes part in discussion with his readers. A recent post made me laugh out... Read Full Story
