Anyone visiting my blog, The Engine Room , in the past couple of days will have noticed it loading incredibly slowly. Everything's back to normal now, but I thought I'd just explain what the problem was and how I fixed it. (I realise this won't be of interest to most of The Engine Room's regular readers; I'm just hoping I can help one or two other bloggers out there.) I use FeedBurner to manage the blog's feed. As a result of Google buying FeedBurner way back in 2007, all FeedBurner users have recently had to move their feed from a feeds.feedburner.com address to a ... Read Full Story

Former Google exec and the cofounder/CEO of RSS service Feedburner Dick Costolo is Twitter’s new chief operating officer, we’ve heard from multiple sources. Costolo, who sold Feedburner to Google for $100 million in 2007, left Google in July . We’d heard he was looking to start a new company, but obviously Twitter swooped in and grabbed him. Steve Gillmor is going to love this, of course, since he proclaimed that RSS was dead and Twitter was the new messaging protocol bus, or something to that effect. “Rest In Peace, RSS,” he wrote , saying “It’s time to get completely off RSS and switch to ... The race between Twitter and RSS readers to be the best personalized source of news just got a little more interesting. Former Feedburner CEO Dick Costolo is joining Twitter as its new chief operations officer, according to a report from TechCrunch . Costolo left Google in July, a little more than two years after the search giant bought Feedburner in 2007 for a reported $100 million. After it was acquired, we reported that the RSS management tool was plagued with problems like posts not being picked up (it seemed to fare only a tad better than other ill-fated Google acquisitions like Dodgeball and Jaiku ... Twitter is really trying to become the company that everyone has it pegged to be, or at least it seems that way by their hiring tactics as of late. While the media daily predicts the emergence / unfettered growth / imminent doom of the micro-blogging service daily (are you sick of it yet?) Twitter goes about its merry way showing signs of brilliance (rapid growth) and signs of “WTF?!” (outages). The latest attempt to move to the next level, according to TechCrunch , is the hiring of Feedburner co-founder and CEO Dick Costolo as the new COO of Twitter. Costolo left Google in July ... It looks like Twitter's filled another hole in its lineup of key executives.  The title of Chief Operating Officer should go to Dick Costolo, who was the cofounder and CEO of FeedBurner and also did a stint at Google post-acquisition. Costolo left Google about two months ago.  His LinkedIn profile claims that, since then, he's been working for Monkey Beach Crime, Inc.  (Chalk this odd tale up to Costolo's former career as a comedian). Michael Arrington provided a more likely story by writing this afternoon, "Dick Costolo is Twitter's new chief operating officer, we've heard from multiple sources. . . .  We'd heard he ... Just a quick observation… If you run a blog (or any other) RSS feed through Feedburner, the title links in the feed point to a Feedburner proxy for the link. If you use Google Reader, and send a post to delicious: the Feedburner proxy link is the link that you’ll bookmark: (Hmmmm, methinks it would be handy if Delicious [...]

Actually, that did explain to me what's wrong. The problem has jack to do with FeedBurner, so let's leave this out of the equation for the nonce :) Your feed SHOULD be http://jamesfriesen.net/feed but that isn't working, as it comes up empty. If we fix that, then you can go make a FeedBurner feed (which by the way means you have to register at feedburner.com and 'create' a feed there, which will import that busted feed). I get ahead of...

Feedburner apparently has integrated analytics with Google Analytics... woopie doo I suppose it makes things simpler for people who weren't already doing something similar for feeds, and at least they are segregating clicks between email and RSS, something their competitors for RSS > Email such as Aweber, Feedburner, Mailchimp etc have been able to do for a long time.

I'm trying to get new posts to send email updates to subscribers. I've tried Feedburner, Subscribe2, and now AWeber. The subscription process works without a hitch but no updates are being received. I'm assuming this might be a setting in Wordpress? I've tried several different feed addresses too.
