treatment for fibromyalgia pain?

what does fibromyalgia pain feel like
by Ed Yourdon

treatment for fibromyalgia pain?I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia 3 years ago, pain is at a 10 and i am tender in 14 of my tender spots. i also have scoliosis and degenerative disc disease, PTSD and anxiety. I take remeron for sleep and topamax, ( i have been on cymbalta and lyrica-neither worked for me)both anti depressants plus vicodin 7.5/325. the vicodin only last for 4 hours and then i have to take 2 more pills so i am finding that i am basically taking pills all day. I am in pain 99% of the time, my quality of life in GONE. I have ZERO energy and can barely function because i am always so tired. How do i ask my doctor for a stronger pain medicine? or at least one that last longer then 4 hours? what should i ask for? for people with fibro, do doctors generally continue to give pain meds? I have seen on here, some do and some don’t. I am only looking for serious answers, NO BASHING or PREACHING. I just want to be able to function with the pain. I feel like a junkie every time i go to the dr and tell her my pain is still there and it worse some months verus others. the 3 most important things i want help with are 1. THE PAIN- i want pain meds that will last longer then 4 hours or that i dont have to take every 4 hours 2. THE CHRONIC FATIGUE- I can’t deal with the fact that I am barely able to get off the couch because I am so tired all the time, it literally takes me 2 hours to wake up and when i am up i am non functional because im so tired, so i would like something that is a stimulant, can you recomment what i should ask for. 3. LACK OF CONCENTRATION- I have NONE, i can not focus on anything, i am barely able to hold it together, i forget everything and even trying to make myself a to do list, i am not able to complete it. Has anyone else had these issues while Living with fibro? What meds worked best for you? I try to do light exercising daily (treadmil) I take 3 B12 vitamins and a multivitamin daily, i bought a temperpedic bed for my aches, i try to go to te chiropractor ( but its so expensive) and physical therapy did not work. any help is greatly appreciated. again please ONLY SERIOUS AND HELPFUL RESPONSES, NO RUDENESS!

PS- I was told fibro could be brought on by my post traumatic stress disorder- have you heard of this before?

For the chronic fatigue, ask your doctor for a prescription to Wellbutrin. It’s a mild stimulant

I understand exactly what you’re going through because I have similar pain issues (chronic headaches and muscle pain) plus chronic fatigue/tiredness (due to a sleep disorder). I take Rx’s for both classes of medications you referred to in order to treat them, but the symptoms you’re experiencing might be from a different source than you’d expect.

Do you eat enough fiber in your diet? Or take fiber supplements?
Because Vicoden, (like all opiate-based pain meds) constipates your system and slows your metabolism down…which can contribute to symptoms like fatigue and lack of concentration. Plus, when your metabolic system becomes sluggish, (as a side-effect of taking pain meds over a prolonged period), your bloodstream can’t eliminate all the toxins that buildup in your body from day to day (such as lactic acid). And just that in itself, can lead to an ongoing cycle of increased inflammation and pain. So if you need to take Vicoden (or any pain meds) for a prolonged period of time, than definitely make sure to increase your fiber intake plus anything else that helps cleanse your system, such as drinking green tea, etc.

And in regard to your question about PTSD,…any type of stress in your body will increase the cycle of tension, inflammation and pain. Chronic inflammation throughout the body is what Fibromyalgia is all about, right? Hope that helps =)
