Last year 119,301 writers participated, and 21,683 actually completed the writing marathon. This year, writers have a number of freebies and discounts to make the writing process more exciting. WINDSOR, Ont. (CUP) - It's almost November, which means aspiring writers everywhere will flock to coffee shops to knock out 50,000 words before the month's end. National Novel Writing Month, affectionately abbreviated to "NaNoWriMo", is upon us again. Writing 50,000 words in a month's time can be intimidating, but merely trying can get you on the right track.  

Every November, over 100,000 people from all over the world participate in a writing event called National Novel Writing Month (www.nanowrimo.org). The "contest" requires participants to write a 50,000-word novel in thirty days, from Nov. 1-Nov. 30. A friendly online computer counts your words at midnight on Nov.
