French former world champion Brian Joubert, famed for his daring quadruple jumps, has warned his rivals that he is evolving into an all-round performer in his quest for a first Olympic medal. "In my free programme, I want to show that I don't want to be just a jumper but I want to be a figure skater," the 25-year-old said after winning his first Grand Prix title of the season at the NHK Trophy here on Saturday. The three-time European champion said he would still try to nail three quadruple jumps in the free programme, a highly demanding feat he achieved in 2006 as ... Read Full Story

Japan's 2007 world champion Ando earned a spot in the Grand Prix final in Tokyo in early December after she claimed her second Grand Prix victory of the season after the Cup of Russia last month. Ando finished second in both the short and free programmes but it was enough to secure victory ahead of Russia's 18-year-old world junior champion Alena Leonova. Leonova topped the women's free programme with 108.51 points and finished second overall at ... Read Full Story

Former world champion Brian Joubert grabbed the Grand Prix NHK Trophy on Saturday with a warning he will try to prevail with his trademark quadruple jumps on his way to the Vancouver Olympics. With a 2.35-point lead from the short programme, he nailed an opening quadruple toeloop but downgraded two more four-revolution jumps in free skating to assure himself of his first Grand Prix title of the season. The Frenchman swept all before him to collect 147.35 points in the free programme for a total of 232.70, followed by American Johnny Weir at 217.70 and 19-year-old Czech Michal Brezina at 217.48. *Looks like Sarah Meier just withdrew? Becky Bereswill (USA) - Rough go for her here in Japan but some beautiful moments. I loved the spiral into the triple loop and also the fight she had on the second lutz. Shoko Ishikawa (Japan) - Like Bereswill, some nice moments but overall a rough go. She seemed nervous, understandably competing at home in her biggest competition ever. *What injury does Sarah Meier have? Cynthia Phaneuf (Canada) - No luck with the lutz but she completed everything else she tried. Like the straight line footwork sequence...very much in character. Yan Liu (China) - It's like 4 minutes ... Read Full Story
