FireWire has replaced Parallel SCSI in many applications due to lower implementation costs and a simplified, more adaptable cabling system. IEEE 1394 has been adopted as the High Definition Audio-Video Network Alliance standard connection interface for A/V component communication and control.

The drive itself is great. It's silent, light weight, takes almost no desk space, and the connection is one-wire simple. BUT---I bought this as an automatic back up device on the basis that it was specifically designed to work with my Mac. It was to replace an older Iomega drive that had broken. The software that "comes with it" is all really downloaded. The Iomega software will not work with anything older than OX 10.5.
