If you're a crappie fisherman, get your ruler out. As I first reported back in mid-August, the Ohio Division of Wildlife was proposing a trio of fishery management changes, chief among them a size and bag limit on crappie, and recently, the Ohio Wildlife Council approved the changes. After charting crappie growth rates in Ohio lakes with a 9-inch minimum length.

A few years ago I found out how fisheries biologists make predictions about populations and fishing for lakes and rivers. Crappie are one of the most popular fish in the south and they survey the populations each year. The methods they use were very interesting to me.
