The 2004 Grand Prix of Bahrain marked the first ever round of the FIA Formula One World Championship to be held in the Middle East and the official culmination of a multi-million dollar project started back in September 2002 when the Kingdom of Bahrain signed a long-term deal to host the event.

Located at Sakhir, 30 km south-west of the island's capital, Manama, the Herman Tilke designed circuit contains no less than five track layouts within one complex. Construction began in November 2002.

The track is 5.412 Kms in length. Race cars travel 57 laps around the circuit covering a distance of 308.238 Kms before the chequered flag is waved. in 2004, Michael Schumacher set the fastest lap record on the circuit covering the distance in 1.30.252 seconds.

FERRARI F1 BLOWS ANOTHER ENGINE - IN MOTION

The European Grand Prix took place yesterday in Valencia, Spain. This was Valencia's first race and the street course made for spectacular television viewing from most aerial views.
Kimi Raikkonen had to enjoy watch much of the race through a television screen or leaning over the pitwall after blowing his Ferrari's engine. For Scuderia Ferrari, this is the second engine blowout in two races, although the previous puff of smoke was worse as it came from the leader of the Hungarian GP, Felipe Massa. The video of Kimi's V8 kicking the bucket is below.

Ferrari's lead in the team standings is only eight points over McLaren-Mercedes. Since the Mercedes V8s seem to be powering through the race, even Ferrari victories (like Massa's in this grand prix) won't suffice. Ferrari took 10 points, but McLaren-Mercedes posted 2nd and 4th place finishes, providing 13 points. With six more races, more results like that will give McLaren-Mercedes the constructors championship.
