Canadian Grand Prix posed to return in 2010
The Canadian Grand Prix is poised to return to the Formula One calendar in 2010 after the resolution of a row over fees between the Canadian promoters and F1 rights holder Bernie Ecclestone, Normand Legault, President of Grand Prix F1 du Canada Inc., said Monday.
The Montreal leg of the F1 season was dropped in 2009.
"I am very happy, and fully satisfied, with this outcome," Legault said.
"And I am especially pleased that an announcement is forthcoming to the effect that the Canadian Grand Prix will be back on the FIA calendar as of 2010."
Legault said he was delighted for Canadian motor racing fans, but added that he would no longer serve as the local promoter of the event.
Ecclestone said last autumn that organizers of the race owed him money from the past three years, while race officials said the dispute regards only money obligations from last June's event.
In June, Quebec Finance Minister Raymond Bachand and the City of Montreal stated that the federal and provincial governments were ready to meet the shortfall required to see the street circuit back on the F1 scene.
