John Mertens, who is running as an independent for the U.S. Senate, is calling for a sharp change in federal policy regarding ethanol production.
His proposal, released this morning, includes a freeze on federally-mandated ethanol production. He is also calling for the federal corn ethanol subsidy to be phased out over the next five years as well as elimination of the ethanol import tariff.
