The Minnesota Twins recalled right-hander Philip Humber from Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday to take the roster spot of lefty Francisco Liriano. Liriano was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday night because of fatigue in his left arm. Humber was due to start for Rochester on Tuesday night, but he was in the Twins' bullpen for the game at Texas. Manager Ron Gardenhire said Humber will also be considered as a spot starter. Humber was 7-7 with a 5.28 ERA in 21 games for Rochester. Gardenhire said Liriano, who allowed seven runs and seven hits in two innings of Monday night's 8-5 loss to ... Read Full Story

Francisco Liriano surrendered his first home run of the spring on Friday, but the Minnesota Twins' pitcher has not lost his focus on returning to his 2006 form. Liriano struck out five and walked one in 3 1-3 innings in front of a sellout crowd at Hammond Stadium in a 1-0 loss to the Cincinnati Reds. "He was still effective," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. "Very effective." Reds righthander Micah Owings, hoping to be the team's fifth starter, struck out four and gave up no runs and two hits in four innings. He has a 1.23 ERA after four spring starts. Jonny Gomes, a ... With teams beginning to jockey for position in the divisional races across baseball, there’s going to be a premium put on red hot pitchers. Check out BetUS Sportsbook’s list of pitchers that you should be backing as the summer heats up for sports betting fanatics … CC Sabathia, New York Yankees (5-0 in August 2008): Right around this time last season is when Sabathia really kicked it into gear and single-handedly helped pitch the Brewers to the postseason. From Dan Wade , of Bleacher Report. Three factors were in play: it was my last week at work, the Twins would play exactly two more home games before I left the country, and this was my only chance to see Francisco Liriano pitch. Skipping work was not a hard choice. Too bad the Twins had skipped work too. Liriano looked good in his eight innings of work, but the offense was stagnant at best and the kansas City Royals managed to eek out a 3-2 victory, despite playing very poorly themselves. The Twins were in a position to be tied for the division, ... Read Full Story

In baseball, it’s not always easy to find the answers.   To this day it seems that almost no pitchers have found the answer to Albert Pujols’ bat and no hitters—except Chase Utley—have found the answer for CC Sabathia’s left arm.   Today, however, there is one question that can be answered unequivocally:   Who should be the second baseman for the Minnesota Twins in 2010?   For months we speculated over whether or not the club would make a key...

In both my 2009 postmortem and my 2010 offseason plan, I laid out two key points. First, the Twins need to accurately deduce what things actually hurt them this year and address them. Second, that thing they needed to address was infield defense. Congratulations to Bill Smith for absolutely nailing this one. J.J. Hardy was the player I most wanted the Twins to add. He's a plus defender, historically a decent hitter, and being traded at the...

Proving the theory that there is no off-season in baseball, the Arizona Fall, Venezuelan Winter, Mexican Winter, and Dominican Winter Leagues are already up and running, even before the World Series ends. The Arizona Fall League, Major League Baseball's official off-season league, is structured in such a way that teams send all their players to one team. This is not the case with the other leagues, which have no formal affiliation with the...

Why is Francisco Liriano on the playoff roster? Why would we bring in an innings eater at the point at which Liriano came in last night? Strange. (Mathias Baden is the editor of the Jordan Independent. He can be reached at editor@jordannews.com.)
