Minnesota coach Brad Childress said Thursday he is reviewing an offer from the Vikings on a contract extension.  

Not all concerns in Minnesota these days have to do with Brett Favre and Brad Childress. The quarterback-coach confrontation has gotten the headlines, but Minnesota's struggling defense has quietly become an issue. Despite ranking eighth in the league defensively, the Vikings have played poorly in losses to Carolina and Arizona the past three weeks.  

In one corner was Brett Favre, the 40-year-old quarterback who has helped the Minnesota Vikings to their best start in years by injecting some big-play ability into the passing offense this season. In the other corner was Brad Childress, the fourth-year head coach who would prefer it if Favre simply follow the game plan and run the plays that are called rather than freelance, as he is wont to do...  

Even the biggest and strongest of players can be rendered ineffective when the brain and the body are not in sync.
