Master of the Darkness: Fritz Lang

By jomith on  From ignitink.com
Fritz Lang was one of the pioneers of German school of Expressionism, one of the few auteurs, who was able to make the successful transition from silent cinema to the talkies, and who also paved the way for the film noir genre in the United States. This essay explores the distinctive role of Lang as an auteur in context of expressionist cinema by analyzing his two films Metropolis (1927) and M (1931). Suchismita deals with object-subject relationships in German expressionist cinema as well as...Read Full Story

Fritz Lang’s Indian Epic – DVD Review

By original_sharp on  From filmshaft.com

Believing audiences would be bored sitting through a movie pushing four hours he and the producers re-cut it into two instalments: The Tiger of Eschnapur and The Indian Tomb . It's a strange reason, really, given it was produced during the age of the historical-religious epic. Although...Read Full Story

Metropolis, 1927, by Fritz Lang

By marstokyo on  From marstokyo.livejournal.com
So I made it to the first showing at 4:30pm and WOW. All I can say is WOW! There were 25 extra minutes in this version from new footage found in Brazil. And it really made a difference. It was like seeing the Wizard of Oz for the first time on a large screen after only seeing it on television. I could see all sorts of...Read Full Story
