Unit Pricing, Unit Pricing, Unit Pricing . . .

By DDFDad on  From selfrelianceworkshop.com
I went grocery shopping tonight on my way home from work and once again was reminded of the value of using the unit pricing boxes on the shelf price tags.   I have talked about this before, but . . . One item, I think it was a can of whipped cream for hot chocolates (doesn't really matter about the what-- it's the how much . . . ), presented me with a choice the sale item a smaller can or the larger item at regular price . . . thing is when I compared unit prices, the regular priced item...Read Full Story

Yet Another Unit Pricing Example

By DDFDad on  From selfrelianceworkshop.com
Last night we had a craving for Philly-style cheesesteak sandwiches.   I did the run to the supermarket, and secured the needed items.  Once again, I got another example of unit pricing discrepancies . . . The seven pack of Steak'ums was actually $2 cheaper by the unit, than the 16 pack.   One would think that the larger, economy size would be less expensive-- not so.  I am beginning to think this pricing scenario and others like it that  I have discovered, are by design.  A design that...Read Full Story

Frugal Retirement Living

By Marianne Wolff on  From cheapskateliving.org
Retire Early and Frugally Here is an interesting perspective on frugal living that goes along with our mission to live frugally but still enjoy life and live well. One author of a frugal living blog describes frugal living as “to look at optimizing efficiency and utility – one will become frugal, rather than just do frugal things.” This blogger claims he spend about 75% less than the average person, and yet gains an equivalent level of satisfaction. One of things he mentions that...Read Full Story

Frugal Uses for Bubble Wrap

By Irene Helen Zundel on  From creativefrugalliving.blogspot.com
Image via Wikipedia I save my bubble wrap from packages I receive and products I buy. In a pinch, I will buy a roll or two at the dollar store. It is great to use for many things. Here are just a few ideas: Do you love camping but hate the discomfort of a sleeping bag? Make it cozier with bubble wrap! Take a 12 foot piece, fold it in half and duct tape around all the edges. Slip it inside or place it under your sleeping bag for a better night's rest.  Use it as a cool and unusual wrapping...Read Full Story
