Buick announced today that its upcoming 2010 LaCrosse four-door sedan will offer a fuel-efficient, direct-injection 182-horsepower 2.4-liter Ecotec four-cylinder engine. Capable of 20 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway, General Motors says that the four-banger LaCrosse will be among the most efficient in the segment.

@gauden44: I want to trade my 30 mpg 1993 honda accord for a Jetta TDI or hybrid in the 45 mpg range. That is a 15 mpg improvement for those who can't do math this early in the morning. No credit for me. Yet if I drove a car that got less than 18 mpg, I could get partial credit for buying a car that only gets 23 mpg, an improvement of only 5 mpg, and still not a really fuel efficient car. Seems like a little bit of loosening of the rules would...
