The Scorpion gets its sting from a hydrogen delivery system the company calls H2GO. While cars like the Honda FCX Clarity and Chevrolet Equinox use hydrogen fuel cells to drive electric motors, the Scorpion uses electrolysis to convert water into gaseous hydrogen. The hydrogen is mixed with 91-octane gasoline to improve the fuel economy and reduce the emissions of the car's 3.5-liter internal combustion engine. Ronn Motors is confident that the sexy Scorpion will top 200 mph. The chrome-moly chassis and carbon-fiber body surrounds a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 in a car that weighs just 2,200 pounds. The engine was sourced from Acura -- it's ... Read Full Story

After filling up a gas guzzling Chevrolet rental car the other day, I thought again how we were impacting our carbon footprint and how we could do a lot better by using hybrid rental vehicles. Ever since New York City mayor Bloomberg announced his five-year plan to phase in an all hybrid taxi fleet, I thought about impacts of cars in Florida. Previously, I posted here about the current state of Florida's fleet of vehicles. Left, Daniel Acker/Bloomberg News; right, Chris Hondros/Getty Images Avis , the company which currently holds the State of Florida contract for rental vehicles for its employees and subcontractors, announced ... Being partially funded by the UK government, the eco-friendly LifeCar project is bringing excitement and more support for zero-emissions technology. The new sleek concept car is to run on hydrogen fuel cells powered by a regenerative braking system (seen in hybrid cars like the Toyota Prius and Honda Insight). As the driver brakes the car slows down, the system captures energy which is lost in ’standard or typical’ cars and used to recharge the batteries. Unfortunately, the lightweight car lacks a stereo, airbags and other amenities. It does have a top speed of 100 mph which is fairly fast for a hydrogen fuel cell ... Read Full Story

@gauden44: I want to trade my 30 mpg 1993 honda accord for a Jetta TDI or hybrid in the 45 mpg range. That is a 15 mpg improvement for those who can't do math this early in the morning. No credit for me. Yet if I drove a car that got less than 18 mpg, I could get partial credit for buying a car that only gets 23 mpg, an improvement of only 5 mpg, and still not a really fuel efficient car. Seems like a little bit of loosening of the rules would...
