Furniture for Small Apartments
We've been looking for ways to organize our San Francisco apartment and wanted to share some links and photos of the stores, sofas, and stuff we've found.
Sonia Covertible Sofa at Chiasso

Last year I suffered through a long and frustrating search for a sleeper sofa. Personally, I am not sure that there is really an exciting modern sofabed at any price level, so my budget wasn't really the issue. Apt-NY had a few decent pieces, CB2 has the Flip Flop (which I think is kind of hideus), DWR has the Sliding Sofa which is better but way overpriced, and all the other options were similarly lackluster. I eventually settled on a brown Ikea Tylosand sofabed which I am pretty ambivalent about since it was very cheap and does its job but isn't particulalry comfortable or well-designed. For some mysterious reason, Ikea completely phased out the Tylosand sofabeds soon after we bought one, and I remember feeling relieved that we had scooped one up--despite not being ideal, it was actually one of the best options.
Chiasso which already had one of the better convertible sofas (the aero) has just added a new one to their spring line that I do rather like. And, goodness! it actually has arms, which already makes it a catch. Like the aero, it only comes in white, although this seems like more of a cream color and the price is super low, just $800. I think overall it's a good choice, but still not a very exciting one. The best idea for those of us with lots of friends and family out of town may be to buy a regular sofa (like the yummy Bantam ) and accommodate our loved ones with an air mattress.
