GLOBAL WARMING NEWS

Global warming is caused by the build up of gases in the atmosphere such as carbon dioxide and methane, which form a sort of blanket over the Earth, trapping in heat that would normally escape the atmosphere. The leading greenhouse gas is carbon dioxide, a pollutant emitted from the burning of fossil fuels, such as coal, oil, and natural has. While it is true that there has always been some natural climate variability, the changes that are currently underway are unlike anything that has been seen before. Record levels of carbon dioxide are having a far reaching change over our weather, sea levels, and climate.

What are you doing to help the environment?

As I am sure you've heard by now today is Earth Day. What are you doing? There's a great Earth Day festival that I usually take the kids to but I missed it, oops. Since I missed it here's a list of some things you can do to help the environment and in lots of cases save yourself some money as well.

Turn off appliances and lights when you leave the room.
Use the microwave to cook small meals.
Don't run the dishwasher or the washing machine until they're full.
Insulation! Whether it's your attic or your hot water heater it will save energy and money.
Fix leaks! Refrigerators, toilets, air conditioning, dripping sinks they all waste energy and money.
If you're in the market for appliances look for the Energy Star seal.
Change your light bulbs, hopefully you went to Home Depot last weekend and got a free bulb.
