Global warming is caused by the build up of gases in the atmosphere such as carbon dioxide and methane, which form a sort of blanket over the Earth, trapping in heat that would normally escape the atmosphere. The leading greenhouse gas is carbon dioxide, a pollutant emitted from the burning of fossil fuels, such as coal, oil, and natural has. While it is true that there has always been some natural climate variability, the changes that are currently underway are unlike anything that has been seen before. Record levels of carbon dioxide are having a far reaching change over our weather, sea levels, and climate.

Washington, November 11 : A new research by a scientist at the Georgia Institute of Technology has determined that reducing greenhouse gases may not be enough to slow down global warming, and policymakers would need to address the influence of global deforestation and urbanization on climate change.

CHICAGO — Health care, a giant in the U.S. economy, may be a gentle giant when it comes to greenhouse gases. According to the first estimate of the sector's carbon footprint, the health care industry emits less than its share of the gases that promote global warming, compared to its size in the economy.

Without an atmosphere, the world would be at an average temperature of -18 degrees C. With oxygen and nitrogen, but no global warming gases, the figure is about -6 degrees. Greenhouse gases take it up to about +15 degrees.

A mission looking to curb global warming is geared up to take flight. The mission consists of a series of experiments conducted on an airplane. The study results will help scientists understand the behavior of carbon dioxide, one of the highest-impact greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, as well as other greenhouse gases.
