I recently decided to purchase a GPS for our family camper. I purchased and returned 2 GPS units, the Rand Mcnally Palm V GPS and the Laptop GPS. The Palm V gps worked functionally, but would not turn off. It also was very sensitive to tree cover and positioning in the car. At times I could not get a fix.It would not work at all in the camper. Then I bought Laptop gps with the Streetfinder software. This unit is worth buying just for the IQ routes! The most important feature of any GPS is its competence in routing. I have owned several brands of GPS, including Garmin and Mio. This one has the best routing yet! It always seems to choose a route that a local driver would choose. Some local drivers could even learn some better routes with this thing. The text to speech voice works well. Like other TomToms, it is very easy to customize in terms of the information you wish to display on the screen. The screen could be brighter. (EDIT 12-19-2006: If you're looking at the 2820, unless you drive a motorcycle I strongly recommend the StreetPilot c550 which I've also reviewed. Read this review and then compare it to the c550.)
