Alex Brown wasn't about to make any bold proclamations. The defensive end sees what's staring at the Chicago Bears and that's a dose of reality. A 17-9 victory over the St. Louis Rams on Sunday was a nice, refreshing reprieve for a team that had dropped four in a row and six of seven. Brown, however, wasn't checking the standings.

The way Jay Cutler started, the Chicago Bears looked as though they were headed to a lopsided win. Instead, they had to hang on to get by lowly St. Louis. Even so, they'll take this. Cutler faded after a strong start, throwing for 143 yards and a touchdown without an interception, and the Bears beat the Rams 17-9 Sunday after dropping four straight and six of seven.

Chicago Bears wide receiver and kick returner Devin Hester left Sunday's game against the St. Louis Rams in the third quarter with a calf injury. Hester was hurt on an end-around play when he took a handoff and was tackled for a 4-yard loss. He limped off the field, received some treatment on the sideline and then walked gingerly into the tunnel to the dressing room.

Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs and offensive tackle Orlando Pace were inactive for Sunday's game against the St. Louis Rams. Briggs (knee) and Pace (groin) were injured in Chicago's loss last week at Minnesota. The Bears were also without tight end Desmond Clark (neck) for a third straight game.
