BlackBerry RIM: iPhone Killer?

When Apple released the iPhone on June 29, 2007, it blocked out the sun and left every mobile phone manufacturer scrambling to create something that could remotely compete. More accurately, cell phone manufacturers were fighting over the scraps of consumers left who couldn’t afford the iPhone or their company wouldn’t buy them one.

Enter: the new BlackBerry RIM (Research In Motion). Take a look at the stats of these two phones and decide for yourself how on the cutting-edge of technology you want to live.

BlackBerry RIM: WiFi, Qwerty keyboard, (limited) Bluetooth, 2.0 Megapixel camera, Intel XScale 624 MHz processor, MicroSD external card, 3G capacity (so it can act as an indegrated cellular modem, and can sync with iTunes.

Apple iPhone: Mac OS X, WiFi, Edge, Bluetooth 2.0+EDG, 2.0 Megapixel camera, 8 or 16G flash drive, Quad-band GSM, iPod player included.

What throws a wrench into plans for those planning on buying the new BlackBerry is Apple's new 3G phone due out on June 9, 2008. This phone will supposedly have a bigger flash drive, and the every growing 3G network capability so you can use the iPhone as a modem. It wouldn't surprise me if Apple remedies other issues, too. Like sending SMS pictuers, searching in contacts, and, uh, faster web surfing. We'll see.
