The projector phone mishmash idea has been around (and even demonstrated) for quite some time now, but only recently have we seen one of these two-pronged, hunchbacked monsters land on a major US carrier. LG's eXpo is carrying that crown (or burden, depending on perspective), and while we're itching to get one into our own labs for testing, we'll happily pass along what looks to be the world's first real good look at this handset in action...  

Following this week's earlier leak of Motorola's expected next Android smartphone - the "Sholes Tablet", Chinese website androidin.net has posted a number of pictures which show Motorola's keyboard-less Android smartphone in whole. According to androidin.net's information, the Motorola Sholes Tablet is indeed running Android 2.1 (as expected) and features a 3.7" touchscreen, FM radio and - interestingly enough - a 5 megapixel camera...  

Some interesting investment news from Motorola today. The company’s investment arm, Motorola Ventures, has put some money into Sensitive Object, a French start-up that developed a haptic technology that can transform most any surface into a multitouch interface.  

The Smartphone keeps getting smarter and the just announced LG eXpo is no exception. Featuring a 1 GHz processor, the design combines a slide out QWERTY keypad, external touchscreen, 5.0 megapixel camera and fingerprint recognition with the option of a snap-on mobile projector to serve up what looks to be a powerful mobile office tool... AT&T has quietly announced the LG eXpo, a Windows Mobile 6.5-powered touchscreen smartphone with a full-QWERTY keyboard. The handset features a 5.0 megapixel camera and a removable Texas Instruments pico projector. Read the full story here.  

ZiiLabs announced a mid-range smartphone development platform supporting its Android and Linux-based "Plaszma" stacks. The Zii Trinity is based on ZiiLabs' dual ARM9-core "ZMS-05" SoC, and provides 1080p video output, OpenGL graphics, HSDPA, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, and a 3.1-inch, 800 x 480 OLED touchscreen, says the Creative Technology subsidiary.  

Up until now two major things have evaded AT&T: an Android phone and Snapdragon. If you're unfamiliar with the second, Snapdragon is a new mobile CPU that can be clocked as high as 1GHz, and the phones based on that CPU are understandably quick. Sony Ericsson have released a firmware update for the Satio smartphone, recently pulled from some store shelves over misbehaving touchscreen issues.  Software version R1CA037 apparently addresses the non-responsive touchscreen problem, together with freezing during media playback, poor speaker performance and camera glitches. PC Magazine - Here's a whole bunch of firsts for the U.S.: LG today announced the Expo, a Windows Mobile 6.5-based smartphone with a built-in fingerprint sensor and optional pico-projector powered by a Qualcomm 1-GHz processor that apparently is a Snapdragon.  

It certainly looks like Creative is determined now to be left out of the smartphone game, and from the looks of the Zii Trinity mobile platform, it does seem that the company has a fighting chance in this cutthroat industry. The device should offer full HD video on the 3.5/4G device, built-in Wi-Fi, 5-megapixel autofocus camera, accelerated 3D graphics, mini-HDMI, and 3.1-inch multitouch capable display.
