I was the kid that brought the dirty, dehydrated, malnourished strays' home, left bread crumbs and bottle caps of water out for hungry birds, and gave names to the flies on the screen door and to the ants on ...  

But without keeping it clean and clear, you could wind up driving off the very birds you're trying to entice to hang around.  

I try and kill two birds with one stone: quality time with the husband plus an uninterrupted night's sleep.
