It's only a gofer's job, honey! When Dave Letterman stepped out into the spotlight on stage last night, I was taken aback when I noticed that his suit jacket was  "loose" on his wiry frame. Has Dave lost weight in the throes of the drama that unfolded this past week over at CBS? Although the perky talk-show host untied one button about twenty minutes into the broadcast and alleviated the obvious visual reveal a tad (was that a  conscious or unconcious nevous habit?) - Dave persisted with a lot of hand-wrenching and a distracting facial tick or two. In spite of the fact the ... Read Full Story

In four decades of comedy writing, Alan Zweibel’s work has provided an enormous range of good answers to the constantly shifting cultural question of “What’s funny?” From the mainstream to the bizarrely experimental, Zweibel has written a number of plays, novels, films, sitcoms, one-liners, and sketches. He sold jokes to Catskills comics for $7 a piece in the early ‘70s before he was hired by Lorne Michaels to be one of the original staff writers on the first five years of Saturday Night Live , where he was responsible for the iconic Samurai sketch with John Belushi and worked alongside Gilda Radner to create ... After spurning a regular guest-host gig for Johnny Carson, and before his career-defining role as fictional host of The Larry Sanders Show, comedian Garry Shandling starred on one of TV’s most innovative sitcoms. Nearly 20 years after It’s Garry Shandling’s Show ended its 1986-1990 run on Showtime, the offbeat, unconventional series remains a high-water mark of Shandling’s long career. “There was so much improvisation. It was incredibly breakthrough – there was just nothing like it,” says Shandling, 59. Available for the first time Tuesday in a 72-episode, 16-DVD set, Shandling’s Show was little-watched but big on concept for its time, with Shandling and co-creator ... Read Full Story

Garry Shandling Plastic Surgery , Mr. Pellicano’s version of theater of the absurd — his relentless and pointless cross-examination of his former employee, Tarita Virtue — was mercifully interrupted this morning for some star-studded testimony by comedian Garry Shandling. Mr. Shandling, dressed in a dark suit and crisp white shirt and looking quite dapper, gave the jury an up close glimpse at one of Mr. Pellicano’s alleged wiretapping victims. During his testimony, he seemed genuinely distressed that during his lawsuit with former manager, Brad Grey, his phones had been wiretapped, his character publicly assassinated and his reputation in town tarnished. When Mr. Shandling was ... Read Full Story

While a comic genius, some of Garry Shandling's decisions drive me batty - don't get me started on what's doing with his face these days. To wit: Why does Garry Shandling decide to release every single episode of "It's Garry Shandling's Show" on DVD ...

Gary Shandling: 2 for 2. Two TV shows, two masterpieces. But where more people are familiar with his later Larry Sanders Show, It’s Gary Shandling’s Show has not received the same posthumous praise or attention, partly because it was a Showtime show in the mid to late 80’s, and then began playing on the just-starting [...]

IT'S GARRY SHANDLING'S SHOW Series: Sitcom deconstruction fuels Shandling's '80s fave (seen on Showtime/Fox) - he plays a comic who talks to the audience during his "wacky adventures" with show-biz friends and suburban pals. Working in the formula "Full House" era, Shandling sends up its silly on-screen cliches, where his subsequent "Larry Sanders Show" took a biting look backstage. They are both savvy takes on the TV scene that shouldn't be...

Whenever a celebrity cook appears on a talk show like The Late Show or The Tonight Show, it's hardly ever a real cooking demonstration. Letterman will start drinking cooking sherry right out of the bottle or Conan will just go nuts and spread butter all over something he shouldn't. Last night was particularly crazy, as Conan, Garry Shandling, and Andy Richter helped Paula Deen make... something for Halloween. It gets kinda hectic so I'm not...
