The Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) was started in 1990 to help bring together gay, lesbian and straight people for the purpose of eradicating homophobia and hate-speech directed toward homosexuals. As of 2009, the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network boasted more than 40 chapters nation-wide.

On Friday, April 17, Northern Kentucky University’s alliance called Common Ground hosted a charity drag show benefiting the Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network. The show featured performers from local troupes such as Le Bitchz James Bondage from the Black Mondays. Greek life was involved with the show, and fraternities and sororities on campus competed for half of the proceeds to be donated to a charity of their choice. Participating organizations were Alpha Tau Omega, Delta Zeta and Delta Gamma with Phi Sigma Sigma taking home the prize. The Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network held its annual prom over the weekend at the Contemporary Arts Center. Adults, those 21+, took the top floor with a live band, delicious food and cash bar. The kids were relegated to the downstairs where it looked like a typical prom, with a DJ and mocktails served by volunteers. The decorations were beautiful and it seemed that everyone had a great time. Since 1977, The North American Gay Amateur Athletic Alliance or NAGAAA has hosted the largest gay sporting event in the nation. There are two divisions an Open Division and a Women’s Division. In each Division there are 4 tournament categories based on the skill level of the team. There are 680 teams in over 37 leagues in the Association.
